A look through the new build in Unst from the very beginning.
It has always been our dream to build a purpose built visitor centre/workshop for Glansin Glass and in 2018 we began a grant application for LEADER funding. The Local Action Group backed our application to build the workshop and develop an new website with an online shop facility, recognising that this would help Glansin Glass become more sustainable and be an important addition to Shetland tourism.
Construction started in November 2019 and we’d hoped to be ready to open for the 2020 tourist season but fate had other ideas. It has been a long and arduous process but we were well supported by the Shetland LEADER team and Business Gateway. There were many hurdles along the way, but at all times we felt the love and support of our family and friends, and the backing of the local community. It’s hard to put into words how much all that has meant to us. Just popping to the local shop and having someone enquire how it’s going can be all you need to give you the boost you need to keep going. It’s amazing to look back on the photos and see how far we’ve come. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been there for us.
